Inbox by Gmail reorganized mail around bundles, reminders, and things to deal with later. Snoozing a message made the inbox feel less like permanent storage and more like a manageable list of tasks.
Bundling changed what counted as a manageable unit of email. Instead of treating every message as a separate interruption, the interface could group related mail and help the user decide when to address it. Snoozing made timing an explicit part of handling the inbox.
Those ideas affected the routine of checking mail, not just its appearance. When Inbox closed, moving to another client meant adapting that routine again, even where individual features had found their way into Gmail.
