Listen to the Sounds

3 familiar sounds. Click a track to listen.

Original recordings: Nokia.

About the Collection

Three familiar tones from the preserved 2005 Nokia sound pack: Nokia Tune, the Nostalgia ringtone, and the clock alert. A small collection from the days of physical keypads and pocket-sized phones. Click a track to listen in the retro player.

A ringtone makes a device recognizable before anyone looks at it. On a phone used every day, even a very short melody can become associated with particular places, callers, and interruptions. Its job is functional, but repeated listening gives it a place in memory.

The collection brings those cues forward as sounds in their own right. Hearing them outside an incoming call changes the experience: there is no message to answer, only the familiar signal and the handset era it recalls.

Things You Probably Forgot

  • This collection keeps a small selection of recognizable sounds rather than every file from the original archive.

The Story

  • 1994 The Nokia 2110 introduces the melody later known as Nokia Tune. It becomes an audible identity for the brand, recognizable without seeing the phone.
  • 2005 The preserved Nokia pack used here contains a later arrangement of Nokia Tune, the Nostalgia ringtone, and a clock alert. Together they capture the phone as both a personal calling device and an everyday alarm.
  • 2014 Nokia marks twenty years of the tune and looks back at its origins. Its history spans many arrangements, while the core melody continues to connect them.
