What Was It?

"Lazy Sunday" is a rap song and short film by the comedy troupe The Lonely Island. Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell adopt brash hardcore-rapper personas, but their big plan for the day is a matinee of The Chronicles of Narnia, with cupcakes from the Magnolia Bakery, directions from MapQuest and snacks smuggled into the cinema.

Samberg, Parnell, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone wrote it in one night, recorded it in the troupe's office and shot the video around Manhattan with a borrowed camera. It premiered on Saturday Night Live on December 17, 2005, as the troupe's second Digital Short.

Fans posted bootleg copies on YouTube, which had launched only five months earlier, and it became the first TV clip to go viral there. NBC had the copies removed in February 2006, but by then the short had shown what YouTube could be.
