What Was It?

"Shoes" is a comedy song and music video by actor Liam Kyle Sullivan, performing as Kelly, a moody teenage valley girl in a blonde wig, glasses and striped tights. On her birthday her twin brother gets a computer and a car, and Kelly gets a purple dinosaur toy. So she goes on a shoe-shopping spree, chanting "Oh my god, shoes" and snapping "Shut up" at anyone who says she has too many.

Sullivan wrote the song in 15 minutes and filmed the video in early 2006 at a shoe store in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. He posted it on his website, and after a fan copied it to YouTube, he uploaded it himself on May 5, 2006. It spread fast through YouTube and email.

It is often called one of the first viral videos, and in 2008 it won the first People's Choice Award for Favorite User-Generated Video.
