What Was It?
The Angry Video Game Nerd is a comedy review series created by James Rolfe. He plays a short-tempered, foul-mouthed collector in glasses, a white button-up shirt and high khaki pants, who plays old video games and rages at how bad they are, often with a Rolling Rock beer in hand.
Rolfe recorded the first reviews, of "Castlevania II: Simon's Quest" and "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", in May 2004 as a joke, under the title "Bad NES Games". His friend Mike Matei helped publish them on Rolfe's Cinemassacre site, and in 2006 Rolfe began posting episodes to YouTube, first as the Angry Nintendo Nerd. His Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles review went viral that year.
The show is seen as a pioneer of online review videos and inspired creators such as JonTron and Angry Joe.
