What Was It?

In the Leeroy Jenkins video, a World of Warcraft guild carefully discusses a detailed battle plan, complete with a calculated chance of success, while one player is away from the keyboard. Leeroy returns, shouts his own name and charges straight in, and the plan collapses.

The guild Pals for Life released the video on May 11, 2005. Its shout became a universal battle cry for acting before thinking, quoted in television shows, on sports fields and by people who had never played the game.

Blizzard embraced the joke, adding Leeroy to World of Warcraft as an official character and later to Hearthstone.

Things You Probably Forgot

  • "32.33, repeating of course, percentage of survival"
  • "At least I have chicken"
  • Shouting "LEEROY JENKINS!" before doing anything reckless
  • The debate over whether it was staged

Its Legacy

The video lives on across the web, and Leeroy became a permanent part of World of Warcraft and Hearthstone. His name is still shorthand for charging in without a plan.
