What Was It?
"Pachelbel Rant" is a musical comedy routine by comedian Rob Paravonian. Strumming the chord progression of Pachelbel's Canon on an acoustic guitar the whole way through, he explains his long grudge against the piece and points out how many popular songs use the same progression.
The grudge goes back to school, where he played the cello. In the Canon, the cello part is just eight quarter notes repeated over and over: D, A, B, F sharp, G, D, G, A.
Paravonian started out as a traditional stand-up comedian and began bringing his guitar on stage after others suggested he try some guitar material. The video of the rant went up on YouTube in 2006 and became the thing he is best known for.
