What Was It?
Canon Rock is a rock arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon in D by the Taiwanese guitarist Jerry Chang, known as JerryC. It became famous through a cover by the South Korean guitarist Lim Jeong-hyun, known online as funtwo, who recorded himself playing it in a beige cap on October 23, 2005.
Lim posted the video to the Korean music site Mule, and a YouTube user called guitar90 reposted it under the plain title "guitar". For eight months nobody knew who the player was, until The New York Times named him in August 2006 as a self-taught 23-year-old living in Seoul. Some viewers suspected a fake because the sound did not quite match the picture. Lim explained that he had recorded the audio and video separately.
It was once one of the most-viewed videos on YouTube and set off thousands of Canon Rock covers.
