What Was It?
Red vs. Blue is a comedy web series created by Burnie Burns and his company Rooster Teeth, made from footage of the Xbox game Halo. Two teams of soldiers guard bases at opposite ends of Blood Gulch, a desolate box canyon, and would much rather bicker than fight, in a parody of shooter games, military life and science fiction films.
It grew out of Burns's voice-over gameplay videos and an argument over whether the game's Warthog looks like a puma. The first episode went online on April 1, 2003, and Slashdot, Penny Arcade and Fark all featured it that day. Halo's developer, Bungie, liked it and agreed to let the series continue without license fees.
Planned as six to eight episodes, it ran for twenty seasons and is credited with bringing machinima into the mainstream.
