The original Myspace platform combined customizable profiles, music, blogs, and friend lists. The classic experience was replaced in the 2013 relaunch.
The profile was a place to arrange taste in public. Music, friends, images, and customized presentation could make one page feel very different from the next. Visiting a profile meant encountering a person's choices about how their corner of the web should look and sound.
This entry remembers Myspace's defining social-network era rather than claiming the name disappeared entirely. Its cultural significance lies partly in that expressive profile-making, when maintaining the page itself could be as important as posting a new update.
