What Was It?

Vine compressed comedy, music, and absurdity into six-second loops that trained the internet to think in punchlines.

The loop changed how a joke could be constructed. An ending could feed back into the beginning, and a very short duration encouraged timing, visual shortcuts, and lines that became recognizable through repetition. The constraint was part of the format's creative identity.

Vine's influence therefore extends beyond the original app. Clips and phrases could circulate elsewhere, while creators carried their styles into other work. What disappeared was the particular shared setting where that compact form developed and where discovering the next loop became a habit.
