What Was It?
"Baby Monkey (Going Backwards on a Pig)" is a one-minute song by Parry Gripp, the Nerf Herder singer whose solo songs are often about animals and food. It sets a bouncy tune to footage of a baby monkey riding backwards on the back of a piglet.
Gripp later said someone sent him the clip and suggested he write a song for it, because he was already known for songs like "Hamster on a Piano". Apple quickly asked to make it a song of the day, which gave it a boost.
The video went viral in September 2010. The next year TIME put the pair in a list of bizarre animal friendships, calling it "the most literal piggyback ride we've ever seen" and warning that Gripp's song stayed stuck in heads for days.
