What Was It?

Stadia promised console-quality games from the cloud, then became a cautionary tale about platforms needing libraries and trust.

Cloud gaming moved the work of running a game away from a dedicated machine in the room. The promise was convenient access, but the experience also depended on the service continuing to operate. That dependence made the platform itself part of every purchase and play session.

Stadia's closure highlights the difference between a game as a work and the service that makes it reachable. The end of the platform was not simply a hardware generation giving way to another; it removed the particular route through which its users played.
