What Was It?

The Wii Shop Channel was the Wii's online store, where players spent Wii Points on classic games through the Virtual Console and on smaller WiiWare titles made for the console. It launched alongside the Wii in November 2006.

It is best remembered for its music: a relaxed bossa nova loop that played while you browsed and that later became one of the internet's favourite memes.

Nintendo closed most of the shop's functions on January 30, 2019. Players could still re-download what they had already bought for a time, but the store itself, and the soundtrack that went with shopping there, went quiet.
