What Was It?

"How to Be Ninja" is one of the early comedy videos on nigahiga, the YouTube channel of Ryan Higa and his best friend Sean Fujiyoshi from Hilo, Hawaii. It was part of a series of mock "How to" videos, alongside "How to Be Gangster" and "How to Be Emo".

The pair started making videos in the summer of 2006, beginning with lip-sync clips. Their early films had no scripts or costume changes and were shot with a simple handheld camera at Higa's home.

Those homemade sketches made nigahiga one of YouTube's biggest channels. It was briefly the most subscribed channel in 2008, then held the top spot for 675 days from 2009 to 2011. After copyright problems, "How to Be Ninja" and its sister videos were made public again in spring 2010.
