What Was It?
Doge is a photo of Kabosu, a Shiba Inu from Japan, glancing sideways with a mix of suspicion and amusement, surrounded by multicoloured Comic Sans phrases in broken English: "such wow", "very meme", "much amaze".
Her owner, kindergarten teacher Atsuko Sato, took the photo in 2010. It became Know Your Meme's top meme of 2013, the same year a joke cryptocurrency named Dogecoin was launched in its image.
Kabosu died on May 24, 2024, at the age of 18. Her face remains one of the most famous on the internet.
