What Was It?
Grumpy Cat was Tardar Sauce, a cat from Arizona whose permanently unimpressed expression came from an underbite and feline dwarfism. She was born on April 4, 2012.
A photo of her posted to Reddit on September 22, 2012 turned her into an instant meme, with captions that turned her scowl into a running commentary on everything people disliked. She became a genuine celebrity, with books, merchandise, television appearances and millions of followers.
She was, by all accounts, a gentle cat who only looked grumpy.
