What Was It?

"The Man Your Man Could Smell Like" is a 30-second Old Spice commercial made by the agency Wieden+Kennedy and directed by Tom Kuntz. Actor Isaiah Mustafa speaks straight to the women watching in a confident, rapid-fire monologue, moving from a bathroom to a boat to the back of a horse in one uninterrupted take. Getting that take required three days of shooting and very little computer trickery.

The ad went online on February 4, 2010, and reached American TV four days later. That year it won the Grand Prix for film at Cannes Lions and an Emmy for Outstanding Commercial.

In July 2010 the campaign went further. In about two days Mustafa answered people online in 186 personal YouTube videos, and in mid-July videos from the series held eight of the eleven most popular spots on YouTube.
