What Was It?
In November 2009 the Muppets Studio released its own version of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", performed by the Muppets. Animal, the drummer, turns the famous "Mama" lines into a one-word riff, and Miss Piggy closes the song with an epic solo sung on top of a piano. A few of the racier lyrics are politely glossed over.
Disney was making short videos for YouTube and Disney.com to win back a wider audience for the Muppets, and this was the troupe's first cover song on the web. It was timed to mark 18 years since the death of Freddie Mercury.
It went viral immediately, won two Webby Awards and was released as a single that reached number 32 in the UK.
