What Was It?
"David After Dentist" is a home video of seven-year-old David DeVore Jr. in the back seat of the car after having an extra tooth removed in May 2008. Still under the effects of the anesthesia, he asks his dad, "Is this real life?" and "Is this going to be forever?", and tells him, "you have four eyes."
His father filmed it to share with David's mother, who could not be there. He later posted it on Facebook and then YouTube, where it spread within days and became the second most-watched YouTube video of 2009, behind Susan Boyle.
The family appeared on the Today show and sold T-shirts, giving part of the money to dental charities. Some critics accused his father of exploiting him; he said it was innocent and had been a positive experience. In 2016, David said he loved the video and had no regrets.
