What Was It?
"The World Is Just Awesome", known to most people by its chorus "Boom De Yada", is a 2008 Discovery Channel advert in which the network's personalities and crowds of people around the world sing a rewritten version of the old camp song "I Love the Mountains". Mike Rowe of "Dirty Jobs" is among the singers.
The ad launched with Discovery's new logo, which went on air on April 15, 2008. Channel president John Ford said the campaign was meant to showcase the network's earned place in the greater pop culture landscape.
The tune took off online and set off a wave of fan versions, from an xkcd comic, "xkcd Loves the Discovery Channel", to remakes themed on Doctor Who, Harry Potter and World of Warcraft. In 2020 Discovery released an updated version, again with Rowe.
