What Was It?
"The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)" is an electronic dance novelty song by the Norwegian comedy duo Ylvis, the brothers Bård and Vegard Ylvisåker. Over a slick beat produced with Stargate, they list the noises animals make with deadpan seriousness, then offer ever stranger guesses for the fox, such as "fraka-kaka-kaka-kaka-kow".
It was made as a deliberate flop to promote a new season of their talk show I kveld med Ylvis, and posted on TVNorge's YouTube channel on September 3, 2013. Instead it became YouTube's top trending video of 2013 and reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100.
Bård said it was only supposed to entertain a few Norwegians for three minutes. It led to a bestselling picture book, a Glee cover and a rush on fox costumes that Halloween.
