What Was It?
"Inspired Bicycles" is a five-minute street trials film of Scottish rider Danny MacAskill hopping, jumping and balancing his way around Edinburgh. His flatmate Dave Sowerby filmed it, and the pair put it together as a promo for the Inspired Bicycles team MacAskill rode for, set to "The Funeral" by Band of Horses.
MacAskill, from Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye, was working as a mechanic in an Edinburgh bike shop and had been practising for more than 12 years. One trick on a spiky railing took eight hours of attempts to get right.
He released the video on YouTube in April 2009, and within weeks it had spread around the world. It changed his life. He gave up his job to ride full-time and went on to make films such as "Way Back Home" and "The Ridge".
