What Was It?
On November 13, 2011, in Richmond Park in south-west London, a herd of around 40 deer starts to stir. Then a black Labrador called Fenton charges in and sends them stampeding into the distance. His owner runs after him, shouting "Fenton" again and again, then "Oh, Jesus Christ", as dog and deer race across a busy road and the cars stop.
The 47-second clip was filmed on a mobile phone by 13-year-old Jake Goodyear, visiting the park with his father, Ali, and posted to YouTube the same day. On November 22 it became the top trending topic on Twitter in the UK, with "Fenton", "Benton", "Richmond Park" and "Jesus Christ" all trending, since some viewers misheard the dog's name. Parodies set the shouting over Jurassic Park, The Lion King and wildlife footage.
The owner chose to stay private, saying he would rather leave the story where it was and move on.
